Have you ever noticed when you look over a large period of your life – say 5 years – you can see some major changes, even though those changes may not have been obvious at the time? If you zoom in close enough, you could probably identify the thought that changed your perception and changed the entire experience of your life.
Shifts happen. Seasons change, as they say. Sometimes the changes bring us closer to our goals, and sometimes they take us further away.
One thing that is important through all these shifts is that we stay grounded. This ensures the shifts work FOR us and not against us. Grounding looks different for everyone – some meditate, some create, some move, or retreat into nature. It doesn’t matter WHAT you do. All that matters is you DO.
Grounding isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary. How do you stay grounded when your mind is swirling all over the place? Simple – you breathe.Breathing takes us into the present moment where we can observe our thoughts and identify fear-based thinking that keeps us stuck, and reflect on how it plays out in our lives.
Personally, as someone who is constantly moving and thinking, I like to meditate and journal. It forces me to stop, sit, and breathe. If this resonates, maybe some of these will serve you:
- What am I feeling in this moment?
- What thoughts are coming up around this feeling?
- Am I at peace?
- What do I need to do right now to experience peace?
These questions help me identify where my thinking is tangled up in stories of past experiences or hypothetical disasters, and allows me to make a choice. From here I can make decisions that are aligned with my goals and the vision I hold for myself.
